1. Who can apply to join the National Symphonic Wind Band of Great Britain?

Any young musician aged 13 to 19 who is at a Grade 8 standard or equivalent is eligible to apply. We welcome players from all over the UK.

2. What instruments are accepted into the band?

We accept a wide range of instruments including Piccolo, Flute, Oboe/Cor Anglais, Bassoon, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, and more. Please see our “Audition Information” page for the full list of required instrumentation.

3. How do I apply to audition?

You can apply by filling out the audition application form available on our website. Simply follow the "Apply Now" button, complete the form, and submit it online.

4. How many courses/concerts will there be?

There will be two courses per academic year. One around the February half term and the other in the summer. Both will finish with a final concert.

5. What standard do I have to be to audition?

We recommend players to be at least Grade 8 standard (you do not necessarily need to have taken the exam).

6. How will the auditions work?

There will be two rounds of auditions:

● Round One: Online submission - two contrasting pieces.

● Round Two: Face-to-face auditions - two contrasting pieces, an orchestral excerpt, and sight-reading.
