YEARLY EXTRAVAGANZA

Come and join in this country leading wind orchestra, perform in some of the best spaces and venues across the UK (and abroad). Take the chance to be inspired by your peers. You could just inspire others too!,

As you develop you could be leading your own sections and support the musical development of other young people. Being part of the NYSWB will be tough but rewarding. You will play some of the leading wind band repertoire and perform it to the highest standard possible.

Mixed with time for reflection as well as the hard graft of rehearsals, you will have the opportunity to create lifelong memories to cherish with new friends that you will meet.

THE AUDITION PROCESS

Round One - video auditions (two contrasting pieces of your own choice) please e-mail your submissions to auditions@nswbgb.org

Round Two - Face to face audition - We may invite you to a face to face audition. These are done at several locations throughout the country.

You will be required to perform two contrasting pieces, an orchestral excerpt (given in advance) and some sight reading. The panel may have a quick 'interview' with you. However, this will be informal and just helps us get to know you.

Second Round of auditions will be held at the following locations:-

● Leeds
● Manchester
● Newcastle
● Glasgow
● Swansea
● Birmingham
● London

The outcome of the auditions will then be e-mailed out within 14 days of the audition along with any feedback deemed appropriate.

Please note - if you cannot attend the face to face audition, please do not panic but let us know as soon as possible and we will do our best to offer an alternative solution.

WHAT WILL A TYPICAL YEAR IN NYSWB BE LIKE?

Winter Term:

● Auditions

Spring Residential:

● Will usually take place February half term or in some cases the Easter holidays. A week long residential followed by a final concert that is open to the public to showcase the hard weeks work and celebration

Summer Residential or Tour:

● This will be the pinnacle of the year where come together to showcase what we have achieved musically over the academic year. This will either take place as a residential in the UK or a concert tour abroad. Information will be released during the audition process.

● Players who wish to audition are committing themselves to both spring and summer courses. This course will usually take place in August.

We welcome applications from musicians at secondary school, sixth form college, university and from those who are home-schooled.

If you play your instrument at an advanced level, we want to hear from you. Musicians will usually be playing at a level equivalent to Grade 8, but with no need for formal graded exams.

Course costs CAN be spread out throughout the year. We are aware of the financial strain. Please get in touch if you have any queries in this regard. Don't feel anyone has to miss out due to monetary concerns.
